COMODO: Representing COntext on MObile Devices using Ontologies



The introduction of the Semantic Web extends the current Web by giving the information a well-defined meaning, thus facilitating better communication and data interchange between systems. In addition, Semantic Web technologies have the potential to enhance the communication between the system and the human user. Context-aware systems further increase the richness of communication in human-computer interaction, thus providing added value services. This is especially important in mobile settings where mobile devices have constrained resources.
The proposed dissertation project is concerned with developing a context-of-use model for users interaction with mobile devices. The model will be implemented in an application and evaluated using existing usability methods. Evaluation of the application – and thus of the model – in everyday tasks is also essential to the proposed project.

The methodology of the development process comprises the design of the context-of-use model, its implementation as an ontology, prototypical development of an application, and the evaluation of the usage under common, everyday conditions.
