Beschreibung
To explore processes, effects, potentials, and limitations of women’s media production in Europe, this study focuses on contemporary feminist grassroots media in the print and digital realm, taking into account not only more traditional media outlets but also present developments in Web 2.0.
By utilizing archival documentation, discourse analysis, and a virtual ethnography, we conduct case studies, each focusing on three different genres of self-identified feminist grassroots media: namely feminist self-published magazines, e-zines and blogs. A pan-European email survey of online and print based feminist media is used to enrich and contextualize these case-studies.
Aim 1: Documentation and description of contemporary feminist grassroots media in Europe, in order to establish a “living history archive”.
Aim 2: Analysis of the content and discursive logics of feminist print and online media, to evaluate the agenda and techniques of feminist media production.
Aim 3: Assessment and interpretation of meaning, vulnerabilities and significance of grassroots feminist media as producing new and hybrid forms of feminist communitas.
