The project endeavours to examine European cultural history and politics as refracted through the prism of the musical as the most popular of performance genres. Its approach is multipronged so as to do justice to the complexity and interdisciplarity of the subject, the various modes of expression involved as well as the multiple strands of influence identifiable in musical theatre since the end of World War II
