Abstract
As a part of its external relations, the EU imposes restrictive measures to sanction politically undesirable behaviour. Art 215 TFEU provides the legal basis for the EU to adopt such measures. The commentary to Art 215 explains the powers of the EU to adopt such measures, the conditions, it must meet and the legal protection instruments to be provided in restrictive measures.
