Abstract
The four entangled questions to be dealt with are the following. First, why is the so-called EPP property – a clause must have a subject – a property of SVO languages only? Second, why is there no such thing as an 'empty expletive' subject? Third, why is there no regular passive of intransitive verbs in pro-drop SVO languages? Fourth, why is English the only Germanic language without a passive of intransitive verbs?
