Generalisierung animierter Choroplethenkarten Animierte Choroplethenkarten (Flächenkartogramme) erlauben die dynamische Visualisierung aggregierter, raumzeitlicher Daten. Ihrem Vorteil einer sehr unmittelbaren, kognitiv kongruenten Vermittlung geographischer Prozesse steht häufig das Problem einer zu hohen Informationsdichte gegenüber. Der Vortrag stellt eine weitgehend selbstkalibrierende Methode zur räumlichen, zeitlichen oder raumzeitlichen Generalisierung solcher Animationen vor und diskutiert die interessanten Ergebnisse einer empirischen Untersuchung zum Erfolg derartiger Maßnahmen. Überlegungen zur effektiven Gestaltung animierter Choroplethenkarten sowie zu deren prinzipiellen Eignung in Abhängigkeit der Ausgangsdaten runden den Vortrag ab.
