A universal geospatial urban information system for mitigating climate induced disasters in Europe

Project Details

Description

AUGURIS implements two urban test beds as representative cases for vulnerable regions, (i) Malaga, Spain and (ii) Dresden, Germany. Decision-making structures of these areas are identified and the specific demands for filling the gaps in these structures are analysed (WP2). The intended ICT system architecture (WP 3) designs the web based user interface integrating different user applications, data sources and distributed services relevant to hazards in urban environments. ICT solutions are improved (WP 4) for the identified use cases towards interoperable solutions based on open international standards (ISO, OGC, W3C, etc.). An easy-to-use ICT support framework will allow to model use cases and to interconnect existing subsystems. Through generalized interfaces, mobile systems and online sensor information will be integrated in the AUGURIS spatial ICT tool box, enriched by analysis and visualisation tools for real-time mapping and modelling in space and time (2D, 3D and 4D). The web interface (WP5) will complete the technical development phase of AUGURIS. The AUGURIS portal environment offers a GUI layer be attractive and targeted to the end-user, with clear and efficient web interaction for easy and effective use. WP6 is dedicated to full preparation and implementation of the activities related to communication and dissemination. This way the interest on the activities and the expectations will raise on the project final outcomes. AUGURIS’ overall objective is to support a sustainable adaptation to the impacts of CC, and thereby to minimize CC’s adverse effects by using ICT for disaster risk reduction in densely populated urban areas. AUGURIS will set up towards a geospatial urban information system for mitigating climate induced disasters with a European dimension. The project develops web-based ICT/GIS-solutions to be used as spatially enabled Decision Support Systems (SDSS). It will create an actor-centric and validated infrastructure component with a clear mandate to support cost-effective dynamic adaptation towards safer urban areas.
