EmBase: Embedded Systems Knowledge Base

In a first step, inquiries (web search; personal contacts, interviews) were accomplished to generate a comprehensive list of: - Companies active in embedded systems (development, design, production, etc.) - Current activities (development, research, education) - Envisioned activities - Activities in European research programmes The collected data have been analysed in workshops for the three fields ‹ software, hardware and education ‹ and finally been combined to a comprehensive overall SWOT analysis. The study has formed the basis for a website analogous to GoogleNews (http://news.google.com): a fully automated meta search engine that watches changes at Embedded Systems sites which have been identified in the EmBase study. The documents are presented similar to a newspaper according to their relevance. The EmBase website ensures that the results of the study further evolve over the time due to daily updates via the fully automated meta search engine. Build a knowledge base, called EmBase, with a focus on Austria and Central Europe. EmBase will cover aspects such as, who is doing what in the area of Embedded Systems?; which trends can be identified in industry, research and education? The study also comprises quantitative and qualitative assessments of the activities. The knowledge base should be published as printed book and a Web-site that is daily updated analogous to Google News (http://news.google.com).
