Description
The objective of the proposed youCache development is to bring an idea to its success that has been born nearly ten years ago, SiMPLE (standing for Satellite interactive Multimedia Platform for Low-cost Earth-stations). SiMPLE simply turns the observation that more than 90 per cent of the web traffic stems from less than 10 per cent of web servers into a (satellite) based multicast web caching system where repetitious content is cached and served to the users without latency and each request served from the client cache consequently saves costly satellite bandwidth. (Please read the Financial and Management Proposal for more information about the history and status of SiMPLE).ASTRA2Connect (A2C) is an already deployed two-way satellite system for serving the end-user market at DSL-like costs. Efficient use of the satellite capacity is of utmost commercial importance, because less capacity consumption per user means more users per transponder.
- perform the analysis of Log Files provided by the project consortium and will produce a log file analysis report
- analyse the feasibility and assess the efficiency gains of caching for Video Sharing applications
- analyse the feasibility and applicability of Multicast Caching techniques to “peer-to-peer file sharing” enviroments
- analyse the log files created during the pilot trials and will calculate the achieved performance gain
- summarise the findings in a Multicast Web Caching White Paper
support development of an 'optimal' web-caching system
