Abstract

The Digital Skills Austria 2023 survey focused on the extent to which Austrians are able to navigate, orientate and shape the digital space.

While the first survey in 2022 not only measured digital skills but also knowledge about processes in the digital space, the focus in 2023 was on the influence of education and training and the participants' problem-solving skills in the digital space.

For this purpose, in July and August 2023, a total of 2087 people from the Austrian online population aged 16 and over were asked via an online access panel how they assess their digital skills. They were then asked to demonstrate their problem-solving skills in thirteen concrete tasks.

The results show that while the level of skills reported is high, the level of competence is rather low. Additional courses in digital technology seem to have a positive impact on skills.
