Abstract

The Atlas zur deutschen Alltagssprache (AdA) (‘Atlas of colloquial German’) documents the geographical variation in colloquial speech in the German-speaking area. In this contribution, we analyse the variation in Austria quantitatively using factor analysis. The results suggest that there are three major overlapping linguistic regions of colloquial German in Austria which hardly correspond to traditional dialect regions but rather constitute separate entities.
