Abstract
How far people point out grievance (voice) or remain silent (silence) has appreciable consequences for the individual performance, group performance, as well as for social factors of the employees such as the working climate To remain silent about deficiencies or problems can furthermore negatively influence external groups such as patients in hospitals if misconduct is not corrected and risks remain. While there is already conceptual research in terms of framework models and empirical works in terms of qualitative studies to predict and examine silence-behavior, quantitative experimental research to test causal assumptions is missing. Therefore, a paradigm is needed to examine silence-behavior under controlled conditions. Thus a silence-paradigm was developed where the subjects have to face scientific misconduct. It was captured how far subjects point out deficiencies (voice-behavior) or refrain from it (silence-behavior).
